Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina. During his childhood he and his family moved between Mar del Plata, New York and Buenos Aires. Piazzolla got a classical music education but lived both for and off playing Tango. He created the Tango Nuevo style and composed more than a 1000 pieces, all very Piazzolla'esque but also very complex, combining elements of jazz, classical music and experimental sounds with the Tango pulse and feel.
